Located within the “Old Park” section of Long Point Provincial Park, Cottonwood Campground offers a serene and peaceful camping experience along the shores of Lake Erie. This radio-free campground is ideal for campers seeking a quiet environment to relax and connect with nature.
Cottonwood Campground is designated as a radio-free zone, ensuring a tranquil atmosphere free from amplified music and noise. This makes it an excellent choice for families, solo travelers, and anyone looking to unwind without the distractions of modern technology. Campers are encouraged to respect this policy to maintain the peaceful environment that Cottonwood is known for.
The campground offers 81 campsites, accommodating a variety of camping setups, from tents to small RVs. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, providing the essentials for a comfortable camping experience. While most sites are non-electrical, there are 23 sites equipped with electrical hookups for those requiring power. Premium campsites are located at the ends of the loops, offering closer proximity to the beach and added privacy.
In 2012, Cottonwood Campground introduced a new barrier-free comfort station, featuring flush toilets and showers to accommodate all visitors, including those with mobility challenges. Additionally, one barrier-free campsite without electricity is available, ensuring accessibility for all campers.
One of Cottonwood’s standout features is its immediate access to Beach Area 1. Just steps from the campsites, this sandy beach offers a perfect spot for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the picturesque views of Lake Erie. The beach is designated as a no-pets area, ensuring a clean and safe environment for all visitors.
Situated within the Long Point Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO-designated area, the campground is surrounded by rich biodiversity. Bird enthusiasts will be delighted by the opportunity to observe over 300 species of migratory birds that pass through the area during spring and fall. The nearby marshes and forests also provide habitats for various wildlife, including turtles, snakes, and amphibians.
Cottonwood Campground operates seasonally from mid-May to mid-October. Reservations are recommended, especially during peak summer months, and can be made through the Ontario Parks reservation system. Campers should note the radio-free policy and plan accordingly to ensure a respectful and enjoyable experience for all guests.
